Research seminar: “Tourism beyond growth: boosting visitor profile for destination sustainability”

The members of the EITT Research Group, Eugenio Díaz Fariña and Ubay Pérez Granja, will give a seminar entitled “Tourism beyond growth: boosting visitor profiles for destinations’ sustainability” on Wednesday 21 May.

It will be held at 10:00 in the D2.01 classroom of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Below is a brief summary of the seminar:

The Canary Islands are facing growing challenges linked to overtourism—a phenomenon that places increasing pressure on local resources, the environment, and social cohesion. This research seminar presents new evidence from a large-scale analysis of tourism data (2022–2023), using advanced methodologies such as cluster analysis and Recentered Influence Functions (RIF). The study identifies which tourist segments generate higher economic returns and which show greater environmental responsibility, particularly in terms of willingness to offset their carbon footprint.
